I am working on a schedule for a customer that used the old finest hour .fh format for their files. I'm not too familiar with the format, and would like to convert the project to a straight .p3 or a Project Management P6 format. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks, Glenn

Hello Glenn,
To be honest, I don't know if P6 can read .fh format, but what I know you can convert .fh to .p3 using P3.1, then you can import .p3 format to P6 directly.

Hope this helps,

Thanks you for your response. Can you tell me how to convert the .fh to the .p3 format? I'm pretty new to scheduling, and have never encountered this issue before.

Thanks,

Glenn

It looks it is more complex than I thought of. Here are the steps you should follow:
INSTALLING UNIVERSAL CONVERT

1. Insert the P3 CD in your CD-ROM drive.
2. Copy UNICONV.EXE from the \SUPPORT\UTILS\UNICONV\ directory on the CD to the P3 WORKLOC directory. The default WORKLOC directory is C:\P3WIN\P3WORK. To determine the location of the P3 for Windows WORKLOC directory, locate the WORKLOC= line in the [Directories] section of the P3.INI file located in your Windows directory.
3. Run the following command from the P3WIN\P3WORK directory:

UNICONV
Accept the C:\P3WIN\P3WORK directory by clicking the Extract button. The UNICONV.EXE file is a self-extracting file containing the following:
CNVALL.BIN
CNVANY.EXE
CNVBYT.EXE
README.CNV
SCR.FH
SCR.P3
BTRIEVE.EXE
BSTOP.EXE

4. Locate the USERFIL.P3 or USERFIL.FH file in the P3WIN\P3WORK directory (or in the project's directory). If the USERFIL file has a .P3 extension, and you are converting projects that have a P3 extension or were created using P3, Copy SCR.P3 to SCR.BIN. If the USERFIL file has a .P3 extension, and you are converting projects that have a .FH extension or were created using FH, perform the following two operations:

Copy SCR.FH to SCR.BIN
Copy USERFIL.P3 to USERFIL.FH

If the USERFIL file has a .FH extension, Copy SCR.FH to SCR.BIN.

RUNNING UNIVERSAL CONVERT
1. Execute Conv6to5 (CONV6TO5.EXE), select Btrieve 6.x to 5.x format as the Type Of Conversion, and click System Files Only. For more information on executing Conv6to5, refer to Technical tip, "Using Conv6to5 to Convert Project's Btrieve Version".
2. From a Command (DOS) prompt (from Start, Run, cmd), enter the following two commands:

BTRIEVE
CNVANY

3. Respond to the Universal Convert prompts.
4. When you complete converting projects and exit Universal Convert, enter the following command to prevent Btrieve issue problems with P3:
BSTOP
5. Execute Conv6to5 (CONV6TO5.EXE), select Btrieve 5.x to 6.x format as the Type Of Conversion, and click System Files Only. For more information on executing Conv6to5, refer to Technical tip, "Using Conv6to5 to Convert Project's Btrieve Version".

Hope this helps,
