Dears,

I have prepared a preliminary construction scheduling according to work items and their  approximate durations. When I would like to assign resources (quantity of materials, equipments or labour at site) to tasks; my project manager said that we had no available bill of quantities and total measurement of quantities for the project.   In this situation while I edit percentage completion, P6 calculates remaning  duration according to original duration but I would like to follow the progress according to resources. Is there any ways to do this?

secondly; Despite of having total quantities, I can not assign any materials some of the tasks like 'permissions' , 'preparing submittals',  'submittals & approvals' in my scheduling. Especially, I tried to update preparing submittal task according to physical completion percentage but I couldn't do it. Is it also possible to do?

I need all your opinions and advices to solve this problems.

First you say you created the schedule with approximate durations (not resources).  Then you say you have no resources then you say you want to record progress accoring to the resources.

If your basis for creating the schedule was duration and you update the percent complete why wouldnt you want it to calculate remaing duration ? You have no quantities to base your progress on !

However if you want to base progress on your resource 1st open the project and go to Projects Mode (1st big button on the top left)

next select the defaults tab

under the defaults tab under actvity type change it to resource dependent.

secondly to update a task according to physical completion percentage go to the same defaults tab and under Percent Complete Type change it to Physical.
