Completely understand. P6 takes the "on demand" functionality to the extreme. Just wanted to give a heads up about the graphics not coming over to Excel because there are those who think that method will also bring over the Gantt Chart and fonts as well.

Yes this is where P6 really lacks..its reporting ability (even for simple requests such as this). The web version can pull a report on a timer(daily or weekly) but its in a static printout (no choice on what format), so it would still have to be manually converted. The reports for web also has to be created in the Reports section of the client P6 and if you havent noticed it doesnt exactly have a lot of flexibility there either. Its been this way since day 1. Primavera (now Oracle) have no intentions of upgrading the report cability in P6. They suggest using either their Report Server or another 3rd party tool using SDK, API?. We do not have the staff or space to create a new server, so cut and paste Excel it is.

Hi, May be I am bit late to respond you, since you get a lot of solutions for this. But I think, no one taking the export issue. You can export the activity codes same as you export all other columns of Primavera. But with activity codes, issue is different. When you want to export Activity codes, be sure that "Secure Code" Option is unchecked for those activity Codes. So, what you can do is; Click on Enterprise Menu---> Click on Activity Codes--->Click Modify--->you get window to make activity code secure. All codes that you want to export must be unchecked in Secured Codes option. Actually, Secured acitivity codes are not exported or not even copy & Paste. I hope it will work for you. S. Nath

Using the Export is not the issue, but that is also an option to use. However, that method does bring across the timestamp for any dates (i.e. more cleanup - most customers dont want to see the time but date only). I was just suggesting the quickest method with the least amount of cleanup. Also, personally I found the Excel Export to be tedious - even though you have saved settings as to what columns you have you still have to page through that wizard just to get to it. The point was the original poster wanted an automatic way to do this...set up what you want exported then set a "timer" of sorts to do it automatically (once a week at a specific time for example) or excute a report (one click execution). Primavera does not have this as an option. You can save a layout or an Export profile, but the actual acquisition of data still has to be done on demand.

Maybe I am not understanding pb1001's response properly - but I can export activity codes to Excel without any problem. I do not need to copy-paste from columns. All you need to do is modify your Excel export template (or create a new one) to include whaever Activity Codes you wish to export. Cheers http://www.emerald-associates.com

I was hoping to set this export up as a "job" and having it run automatically from time to time. However, I think the manual copy and paste is going to have to be my back-up plan. No real concern with the Gantts or colors, just as long as I can provide them with raw data. Many Thanks, -AndrewC

I would not use the Export function in P6 for this data. Go to Activities and display those codes as columns. Select CTRL+a (so select all activities), then CTRL+c to copy. Open Excel to a blank sheet then either Edit - Paste or CTRL+v. Anything you have in the spreadsheet columns part of the P6 activity view gets copied over into Excel. However, you will notice that none of the colors come over nor the Gantt Chart, just the flat data.

Hello, My company is using Primavera Project Management as our scheduling tool. My customer is requesting that I provide our schedule data to them in a Microsoft Excel (.xls) format as they do not have PPM software. I have been able to successfully export schedule data such as activities, successor/predecessors, and resources. However, it seems that the activity codes attached to each activity are not coming over in the export. We use these codes to identify important elements such as phase, work location, milestones supported, etc. So, getting this info over into Excel is vitally important. Has anyone had any experience with this. Taking a quick look at the PM administrator's guide doesn't give me a good feeling the functionality to bring these codes over exists. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! -AndrewC
