I'm trying to install the database on our server. We need to set it up in the office for 2 users. I was told by customer support that it'd be easy and jsut isntall the database on the server and then run a client install on the users' computers. I can't get past the database install on the server. We're running Windows 2K3 SBS and it does have SQL 2005 installed. I noticed the service running says SQL Server but has (SQLExpress) next to it. I don't know if that's an issue or not. I'm following the admin guide for a SQL install and when I get to the screen for the connection Information, I entered a username/password and the Computer name and port were already there and correct. however it gives me a long message saying the connection timed out and to check the properties and connections. I've checked as mush as I can but I'm only a network administrator not a DBA. I'm I mising a step and need to do something else or does it sound like it's some type of configuration issue with SQL? Any help would be great! I'm in a time crunch to get this up and running. As a second option if it takes me a shile to set this up, I was thinking of setting it up as a stand alone on a spare computer and letting them log onto it via remote desktop. Do you think that would work? Thanks, Chris Update: Apparently we are runnning SQL 2005 Express. I'm running Windows 2K3 SP2 with SQL 2005 Express. Can I still install the database on this server or do I need to upgrade to 2005 or 2008 Standard? |
