I can't get the application to stay on the screen. Though i got the licence error quite alright, but I need to make the application stay so that the licence error can be corrected. It disappears immediately i click the finally ok on the error. How do I make the application stay on the screen?
Pls i need a help. |

I had installed p6 sucessfully. My way of installing include the following steps 1.Install P6 as a standalone.i.e second option.The first option being Client application(not sure).Select the licence file(licence.txt) using browse option.After that SQL server 2005will be installed automatically.he case is same for both PMDB & MMDB 2.Don't install sample projects.Untick that option. |

Ok, P6 Installed DB installed V7 DB msql and V7 Client tools on XP.
Methodology runs great. When I try to start project managemt with the admin login, I get
You are not authorized to run this application. Please contact your administrator.
all users set up. Fresh install.
Any help will get a good bottle of wine!

hi Zoltan,
when i try to connect to the data base via Primavera 6.1 i get the message "failed to connect" to the data base PMDB.
I opend SQL Server to verify the data base pmdb$primavera. There is no data base with this name !!! there are system data bases.
How I install the data base pmdb$primavera under sql data base engine.
Can you sen me a sample data base from you machine. (you find it under: C:\Program Files\MSSQL\Primavera\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\DATA)

Hi All,
I need help...
When i login it gives me a message as under
Unable to connect to the database. Would you like to configure the database connection now?
then i follow all the step as should be i got another error message, can some body helpme out?
Bad public user name or password. Database Server Error: SQL Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance Specified [xFFFFFFFF]. ;
I have XP SP3 installed and have standalone installayion of Primavera V 6 with sample projects.....

| Guys it wont work on windows 7 64bit, the only way that it would work is to un-install the service pack and re- install p6. then update your service pack 3. Its not Oracle its Microsoft's issue. I an going to use virtual pc and feel it out. |

Rakesh Solution- Contact the local database administrator and ask for the complete 'Host Name'.
NOTE: If this is a P6 'stand-alone' installation, try using a 'Host Name' of "localhost\primavera" (without the quotes).
If that doesn't work, open 'SQL Server Management Studio Express'.
Click: Connect
The complete server and instance name will be listed in the upper-left:
- Reconfigure the alias using the complete 'Host Name' (including the instance name, where applicable).
SQL Server specified does not exist, or service is not started.
Start or restart the Microsoft SQL Server which is hosting the Project Management Database Named Pipes and TCP/IP are disabled in SQL Server Configurations. Start->Program Files->Microsoft SQL Server 2005-> Configuration Tools-? SQL Server Configuration Manager Expand SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration Select Protocols for Verify that Shared Memory, Named Pipes, and TCP/IP are Enabled If all configurations appear to be setup up correctly, the database configuration says it is successful, but project management is not able to connect: |

i have the same problem and i did whatever possible to fix the issue but it just dont work. i see the logins does exists in PMDB database but whenever i when creating the database alias its always return a public user invalid message. http://img18.imageshack.us/i/fb1a.gif/ i also run the sp_change_users_login script but it did not change anything. the most strange thing is that pubuser and privuser can login to sql mgmt express. also i tried uninstalling p6, delete installation folder and p6 registry keys. uninstall sql server exp 2005 and delete installation dir but it did not also change a thing. one more thing how to remove the old database alias? regardless of how removing p6, old database alias remains.. http://img444.imageshack.us/i/aliasc.gif/ |

ctyrrell Sounds like it is time to spend $100 and upgrade to Windows 7 you wont be sorry it is a very good operating system and will run P6 the other problem may be that your user name contains a single quote or an apostrophe. does your login contain an apostrophe ? |

Had Primavera 6.1 running on WinXP Pro and SQL Express 2008. After importing a project into an existing, the Primavera 6.1 opening of project/layout slowed to a crawl. Shutdown and rebooted without success. Opening a project can be 1/2 hour long. Help? Can create new database and import project without problem but on importing more project file into the same database, the same situation happens. PC: Dell D620
Memory: 2GB
Harddisk: 40GB free
OS: Windows XP Professional
SQL Express 2008

i already installed primavera p6 to the system win7. everything, every instructions that how can you installed it are same as before, but only one thing is important. if you use win7, you know about user account settings.  when you want to do something, or try to open a program, it shows you a dialog box and ask for a permission. for that reason, when installing primavera, cannot open sql server install. before of installing primavera p6, just install sql , then it will ok.
but also i have another problem, that when i search everything at internet, i cant see its exact answer. problem is "unable to connect server". i had this problem many times and find "format system" as solution. this make me feel so bad, and block all my works. but today when i see the same problem as "unable to connect to database. would you like to configure the database connection now ?" i said "no". before when i said "yes" everytime. and try to configure the database. but today after i said "no" nothing happen and come back to the first windows that ask the user name and password. i said "oh no again? this is bullshit " then enter my user name and password, it works again i am an electical electronic engineer, i also wrote some programs before. but i cant explain this situation, i think problems about the program codes, i dont know.
and one more thing, mr ahmet, did you have any problem that i explained? |

After many attempts and agonizing moments, managed to install SQLExpress 2008 (64-bit) on Windows 7 and using RESTORE DATABASE for the PMDB database seems to work. Only concern is the lack of SQL Server Management Studio (incompatibility issue) with Windows 7 that isn't there. |

It will run on windows 7 but it has to be the 32 bit version not the 64 bit. That is a fact I have seen with my own eyes a fellow co-workers has it running Forget Vista that operating system is junk |

I successfully managed to install primavera P6 on Windows XP and using the same method on Windows 7 it simply wont work so guys for now forget the idea of installing it on Win 7. But is there anyone here who managed to install it on Windows Vista please let me know at

Oliver Primavera no se puede instalar en Windows 7, pero si tienes Windows7 profesional o ultimate y tu computadora tiene el soporte de tecnologia virtual entonces puedes hacer el download de XP en Microsoft dowloads y trabajar con esta plataforma Primavera solo trabaja por ahora con XP los idiotas de Oracle hasta ahora no han podido actualizar la compatibilidad con widows 7 que trabaja en 64bits. Si puedes comprate una computadora con XP professional entonces podras instalar Primavera p6, Espero que esto te sirva. |

One thing you forgot to tell is that the computer you have with windows 7 Proffesional or Ultimate have support for virtualization technology, if is so then you can install XP otherwise you will be stuck forever. |

Anyone considering installing P6 on their Windows 7 machine, I have good news for you. Do not even consider installing it in Windows 7!
Install virtual PC and Windows XP mode (available for free on the Microsoft website) on your Windows 7 machine. Then, just install P6 there - it went perfectly. Wish I had done that last week - would have saved me hours and hours of frustration.
BTW Oracle may be the worst company I have ever done business with. Let's hope an alternative to Primavera comes onto the scene, as Oracle sucks. |

Look, you have had installed sql 2000 or other diferent to sql 2005???.
p6 use sql 2005.... first you need Unistalled all sql 2000 before to installed p6
you try it, then tell me about it

tsi tienes instalado el Sql server Management Studio Express - ingresa conectate y revisa ti tienes instalada la base de datos PMDB$primavera, si no lo tienes es n poblema del Sql algo de tu maquina no ha dejado instalar el sql tienes que resintalar todas las versiones que tengas del sql y volver a instalar. |

I have never been so irritated by a software installation progress. It has been 3 days, i guess I've read everything written on user forums and tutorials and tried it all, but still no result, it just does not work.
Bad public user name or password. Database Server Error: SQL Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance Specified [xFFFFFFFF]. ;
Anyone has any idea what might be the problem? Please help, I am stuck.
I have a clean P6 installation, I did not install mssql or sample user myself, just clean P6 installation with mssql server express in the p6 installation package automatically installed, I had the database connection configuration done just exactly the way it is written in this thread.
Any ideas? |

i have a problem, i have follow the step that kedar mentions. because of at first place i install the stand alone + sample project without attach the liciense (late i have attach to it) , now the system ask for user is not same with the liciense. it ask me goto admin tool bar do the modification. As i delete all user except admin the system wouldn't allow me to go out and still showing the windows.
another question is how to uninstall primavera? |

Every thing Kedar described is perfect except: instead of:
7 Now here you should enter following
- Host Name = your computer name-PC\PRIMAVERA
try
- Host Name = your computer name\PRIMAVERA
this worked for me perfectly

I was using P6 standalone version all of a sudden when I click on open the project it does not open it hangs however if I import an xer it opens only the imported file.
Hence I tried backing up the database back was successful and I restored the database on another computer and it restored also.
Now here is the catch the new database name is PRMB
normally the database of primavera is supported with $ primavera. mine does not show that.
After restoring and checking the path I tried to configure the database but it does not configure, C|Ould you please guide me through I have a data of 1.5 GB for past 4 months too much of work .
I dont understand the problem I am facing.

| I am assuming this was for vista 32 bit system. I did not have probelms loading P6.2 on vista 32 bit system and I installed the sample projects. Howecer, I am having problems with loading it on a vista 64 bit system. |

Hi
Here are the steps I have followed for P6 on Windows Vista
1. Install P6 as a standalone.
2. Do not install sample Projects.
After installing reboot your PC. Try to login with User- admin Password- admin.
Then you will get message "Server not configured"
Now Start Here-
1. Click the tab beside database PMDB
2 You will see "Edit Database Connections"
3 Click Configure
4 Check Database alias= PMDB
5 Select Driver type = Microsoft SQL Server/SQL Express
6 Click Next and you will at Configure SQL Server Connection
7 Now here you should enter following -
Host Name = your computer name-PC\PRIMAVERA
(if you open My Computer you will find your computer name at bottomleft corner or open Device Manager your computer name will be at the top)
Database Name = pmdb$primavera
8 Go to next screen and Do not change anything!! , click Next to Validate database connection, 9
9 Go ahed by clicking Next, Check Connection Successful!! Dialog & Finish
Follow the same procedure for Methodology Management Database
Host Name will be the same
Database will be MMDB
Database name will be mmdb$primavera
Rest of all as above.
Try it and tell me if you have any problem.

Copy the P6 installation DVD content to hard drive and try run setup there.
That has worked fine with me when I got the same error message. Hope it will help you too.

i am installing primavera 6 standalone.. and getting this msg on sql server 2005 intallation

Mustafa,
If you installed SQL server manually, it means that SQL server made a connection default so you have to uninstall from control panel and then delete its folder in my documents manually. While you will try to install P6, automatic installtion wizard will be creating a SQL express by itself. P6 is not working with SQL 2005 which was installed manually.
On the other hand if I were you I would check language setups from control panel all options must be englısh (USA) and location USA... I have just solved a similar problem on my software with this way....

| Still doesnt work for me. I installed it step by step as explained by Mr. Ahmet, as stand alone and it installed Microsoft SQL server menagement studio express. Next according to Mr. Inscore i try for new query and paste the exec.... but when i click on execute it answers that user doesnt have permission to perform this action. Whenever i try to open primavera 6 it first asks for username and password, once i write them down and click ok it shows that : "Unable to connect to the database. Would you like to configure the database connection now?" I get there and step by step i end up to the Host name and database name which i dont know and whatever i put in the result is bad public user name or password. Any ideas? Thanks a lot for your answers. |

Mustafa, I've just replied an earlier problem with the same issue.
You will need to use the SQL Server Management Studio in order to get this to work. When you log into the SQL Manager, You select the P6 database. Right click and select: "New Query".
In the right pane you will need to paste the following script:
Exec sp_change_users_login 'Update_one','PUBUSER','PUBUSER' Exec sp_change_users_login 'Update_one','PRIVUSER','PRIVUSER'
and select "Execute" from the menu. The connection to the priv- and pubuser is reastablished. Now you will no longer receive the "Bad Public user name & password" error.

Hello Mustafa,
The default user name & password in Primavera is admin / admin. Password is case-sensitive. User name is not.

Teshekkurler Ahmet, It does work, finally. But I've got different problem now, when I am starting p6, it asks me for a "Login Name" & "Password". Is there any template password?
Does anyone else has got the same problem?

Hello Mustafa,
If I understand right, you've created database manually. First of all, if you will use P6 on desktop in a single user environment, I suggest to install it in Stand Alone mode.If you use it in multi user environment, then first install the database using Primavera setup. You shall create database manually only if you need to use unicode characters. Ammad,

Installed P6 and MS SQL Server 5. In SQL Server created database, user and assigned all necessary rights. Enabled all network protocols.
When launching P6 it requires Database Configuration to be completed first. Have difficulties with Database Configuration Wizard - have no idea what the following fields mean: Database Alias and Public Group ID.
Using defaults for these two values gives an error: "Bad private user name or password. Check the public group ID. Database Server Error: Invalid object name ’PUBUSER’."
Please advice.
