| Hi, this is my first post here, so I'd like to say hello to everybody. I've been maintaining what I'd call a 'typical' (ie what I learned in classes, etc) P6 schedule on my job, and basically each week I update the % complete of each task and move the data date forward a week and i will get different end dates etc.
The client now wants a "baseline" schedule, but not in the typical sense (ie black line underneath each task). He wants me to use my schedule as it is now and show percent completes for each task, but the tasks are not to move from week to week. For example ...
if i have a task that goes from nov 1st to nov 5th, but it's only at 50% completion on nov 7th when I update, the updated schedule (dd=Nov 7) should still show the task going from the 1st to the 5th, and show it as being 50% complete. Is this possible?
If this question is unclear, I can upload an image of what I'm looking for. Thanks,
-Sean |

| Hello Sean,
Welcome to the community. To save and show the baseline, please follow the these steps: 1. Under Project menu select Maintain Baselines... 2. Click on Add button on the dialog box and select Save a copy of the current project as a new baseline 3. Under Project menu, select Assign Baselines... 4. In User Baselines Primary, select the baseline you've just created 5. Under View menu, select Bars... 6. In Bars dialog box, mark Primary Baseline and Baseline Milestone and click on OK.
If you follow these steps successfully, you should see the baseline bars below your Current Bars.
Hope this helps,

| Sean, from your first post what I understand is that you will keep changing the % complete but the dates should not be recalculated. Did I understand you question correctly? If yes, one thing I can think of is, update the % complete and actual hours etc as usual, but do not reschedule. You will stop rescheduling (no more F9). And also, do not change the data dates any more, let the data date be what it is. Ahmet, would this work? Cheers |

| Thanks for the reply. I ended up creating a new layout that shows the baseline only, and shows baseline start and baseline finish dates instead of actual start and finish dates. This way, I can still change data date, update the schedule and % completes, and change things to reflect the way they really are, and then I can just switch the layout view and print off a "static" version, complete with percentages. Certainly not perfect, but it's good enough. Thanks for taking the time to respond. |

| Sean, your solution really helps. I also encounter some people that they prefer to see the schedule in its original state and they just want to see it with % complete bar. But, I guess this will be better if this is combined with progress line. I used to display progress line in my schedule when I was using P3 but this function seems to be missing in P6. |
